Per our discussion, the purpose of this thread is to organize a constitutional convention for FreeThought Fort Wayne.
We first need to establish the date, time, and location. Tentatively, we are looking at the evening of Tuesday, November 18, at Andy W.'s house. Andy,
please confirm, and when we set the date and time I will send an email with the address.
Second, please confirm your interest in attending by 1. Posting a response here and 2. Sending me an email, mightymjolnir at gmail dot com.
I will bring a preliminary draft based on a similar group's constitution. As I mentioned at the meeting, I think we need to keep the bureacracy to a
minimum. However, the scope of the constitution that I had in mind will define the following elements:
1. Purpose (Name + Mission Statement + Basic Goals)
2. Membership
3. Leadership Positions (Including committee chairs)
4. Treasury Policy
5. Basic Bylaws (Meeting policy, officer/member removal, disolution)
6. Amendment Procedure
Please feel free to add other elements you wish to define.

Tell you what, I don't really want to post my address here for the public to see, mostly because I don't want a rock thrown through my window, Andyscathouse-style (Zing!), so how about this: Why don't I send the info to mightymjolnir, and once you confirm with him, he'll pass the info along to you. Do we also want to send this on the e-mail list? I put it in the minutes, so diligent members should be checking here too, but to be fair, should we also put it out in its own e-mail? Andy D: How much should we chip in for the new account? Should we bring like checks, cash, money orders or something to add to the balance? Please let us know the details at the CC meeting. |

Mighty: please send me Andy W's address too. Dystressed: as far as donations go, we'll accept anything short of pop tabs. We'll even take those in massive quantities for the recycling! I haven't installed a zon on my computer yet (I kid, I kid), so cash, check or money order will have to do. On that note, I was wondering if maybe we could or should let all people who donate a minimum amount (whatever we decide) to get a tag or banner next to their name in the forum or maybe even on the website when leaving comments. The tag could say "donor" or "supporter" or something. I don't know how many people go for that stuff, but hey, it's a small token of appreciation for donations.

I had a fun time at the convention last night. (Thanks for hosting it A. W.) The discussions afterward were especially interesting.
After getting home, I discovered that I have a conflict with the next scheduled convention (Nov. 25, 7pm). If I can make it at all, I'll be at least an hour late. I know how hard it can be to find a time that will work for everybody, so I'm not asking to have the convention rescheduled. But if it is, you won't hear any objection from me. And if it is rescheduled, I'd want to find a time that would work for 'mighty'; he got this ball rolling. |

Thanks, agno. It was quite fun. I'm surprised it's not against the law for that much brainpower to be in the same room together. We aren't quite
finished yet. We will continue on Tuesday the 25th, if you should be interested and available.
Don't worry about time constraints. we all have them- some worse than others. Just show up whenever you can. We're always happy to see you, no matter how often that is. |

Hooray! We've finally and formally adopted our Constitution. If I didn't know better, I might think that the cold snap last week was an attempt to
forestall our progress, but we (eventually) prevailed!
Congratulations to all our new officers. They've taken on the challenging task of organizing our fledgling group of independent thinkers. I wish them the best and will help out where I can. Maybe next year when the officers are (re)elected, we can have parades, parties, media coverage and have to hire police for crowd control. I recently saw that happen to a black dude on TV and it seemed like a real blast. |
